Kids and Dogs. Similarities?

I will never forget years ago when I found out I was pregnant. I had been training dogs for years before that time and my Grandpa Fox had some advice. He told me, “Don’t be thinking that baby will learn with Kibbles and Bits!” In other words, gramps was saying that the methods I use in dog training will not compare to how we raise our children and how difficult it can be. Although, I must say that I have found many similarities!

Dogs repeat what is rewarded.

During class, my Golden Retriever, “Charley,” finally came when he was called even with distractions! You better believe I had a handful of treats when he got to me from over 20 feet away! When Jessica finished her homework and asked for an ice cream? You bet I asked her which flavor she would like!

Do kids repeat what is rewarded? Most of the time…dogs? Almost ALWAYS! What do you think? Which is more difficult? Kids or dogs?

Yours in Training,

Christine Fox
