Day Care

The play and train program operates Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 7:00pm. Our facility includes two indoor activity rooms. Activities include indoor and outdoor play, a minimum of 6 daily, individual outdoor walks, training of basic commands such as come, sit, and heel, snack time, and a rest period daily from 12-2pm.

Our normal vaccination requirements and a negative fecal annually, plus a nylon snap collar with ID tag are required. Reservations in advance are needed to assist us in providing adequate staff.

A tired dog is a well behaved dog! Providing training, socialization and exercise on a regular basis relieves stress for the entire family. Give your dog a “social life” while you are away that includes an education complete with stay commands, coming when called, tricks, leash training and so much more. Day Care is an extra special service you can provide for those dogs who are treated like family. This service is perfect for dogs lacking confidence, adopted or rescue dogs and most especially high energy working breeds. We have viewing windows designed just for your pleasure and amusement. Our dog door is always open for guests!

Due to the communal nature of our playgroups we cannot accept pitbulls or any mixed pitbull breeds.

In addition, in order to provide the safest environment for dogs under ten pounds, they are accepted, although they are in play areas that account for the needs of extra small dogs.

Our extensive curriculum includes

Day School: Our exclusive “play and train” group daycare sessions. Providing an unparalleled opportunity for mental and physical activity, learning and socialization. We offer both “Elementary” and “Junior High” activity groups.

Boarding School

Wag ‘N’ Tails is the original “kennel-free” specialty “home-style” boarding facility located in Shelby Township, Michigan. We are a one of a kind dog activity center featuring over 6,000 square feet of space, multiple televisions, exercise sessions including socialization and training, and an experienced staff to meet all of our guests needs. We have special areas for our small dogs as well as an “old timers” area. Our primary goal is to offer a safe and fun alternative to the traditional kennel for well socialized pets who deserve only the best! Our facility has been designed to be as “homey” as possible, and of course safe and sanitary without the use of kennels or runs.

Accommodations Include:

  • Daily play and train sessions. The only time our “guests” are not interacting is between 12pm-2pm for nap and lunch time during the week, and from 11am-3pm on weekends and holidays.
  • Experienced staff of loving and enthusiastic dog trainers eager to teach and provide the attention each and every one of guests enjoy and look forward to!
  • Two very different activity rooms. The junior high school room is designated for the high energy, working breeds complete with tunnels, ramps, jumps and more!
  • The elementary activity room is designated for our less active types. Those who are elderly, recently adopted, lacking confidence or socialization, or young pups who need lots of individual attention. This room has a large screen television and areas to rest or observe throughout the room.
  • Variety of bedtime options for each guest.
  • Weekend and holiday pick up and drop off’s.
  • Sophisticated and monitored fire and security system.
  • Two full kitchens for food preparations and special diets.

After a long day of playing, learning, and socializing your pooch is ready for bed! Our dog house provides each dog with his/her own sleeping crate in which to rest up for the next day. All crates have fuzzy beds and soft pillows.

REQUIRED INTRODUCTION VISIT
It is so important to us that all pooches understand that Wag ‘N’ Tails is a fun place to come and play with their friends (canine or human) and feel comfortable when they stay the night. This is why we require any new dogs complete a minimum of one day of day care or visit us for three hours at no charge before they are a eligible to spend the night.

As appealing as a play and train program may sound, not every dog can or should attend a socialization program. At Wag ‘N’ Tails we very carefully select and assess whether a guest’s temperament is right for group play. When we screen a dog on their first visit we are not looking for a perfectly mannered dog, we understand that their excitement in being with us is overwhelming! We are looking for a well adjusted dog that is both dog and people friendly. We obviously won’t accept an aggressive dog or a dog with a history of biting. The lengthy pet profile filled out upon registration helps us to get to know your dog and what it is you are looking for with this service. A fearful dog generally isn’t a good candidate. These dogs may nip or bite out of fear. However, a dog who is simply timid may thrive in the program, since it helps dogs improve their “social skills” so they interact better with both dogs and humans.

  • Please allow an attendant to bring your dog back to the activity room when you arrive. For training and safety purposes only staff members are allowed beyond the play and training room entrances.
  • Please keep your children close to you at all times. Some of our dogs can get a little over excited when “company” arrives and we want to prevent any accidental scratches or injury from occurring.

What to Bring

Wag ‘N’ Tails provides everything our guests could want or need at our “dog house.” We just ask that you provide the following, always clearly labeled with your dog’s first and last name:

Feedings

We do not want to upset your dogs usual feeding routine by feeding a different food, this can cause an upset stomach and anxiety. Please provide the following:

  • Your dogs meal(s) in a separate zip lock bags. Please include your scooper that you use at home if you choose to bring your dog’s bag of food for boarding stays over three nights.
  • Please don’t forget a snack or training treats for every visit. Some of our dogs have sensitive stomachs or allergies and some of our “kids” work best in training with a special reward.

Bedding

We provide bedding and pillows for those who are not “chewers.” We discourage you from bringing your dog’s bedding from home as tracking these items can be difficult to launder and track properly.

Toys

For safety reasons, we use certain types of toys that are easily disinfected. Although, if you wish to provide one “scent filled” fleece toy (labeled) for bedtime, this is acceptable.

Medicines

Be sure you clearly label the dosage and frequency of the specific medicine to be administered.  Please be aware of the additional fees for medicine administration.

Please let us provide…

Wag ‘N’ Tails is here to pamper and provide a home away from home for your pet! Please allow us to provide everything that is not listed above, including items such as bowls and crates.

Holidays

Reservations must be made prior to 5 days before the holiday for overnight boarding, otherwise your invoice will be charged $5.00 extra per day for the length of the stay. All guests, regardless of the time of reservation, are charged $5.00 extra on the day of the holiday. For instance, Fourth of July is an extra $5 for that day only.  Day care clients must notify the office if you do not plan to attend day care on a Holiday, otherwise a package visit will be used.  We appreciate your understanding as it is imperative that we staff and plan our days accordingly.
